Trigger Point Dry Needling

If you are suffering from myofascial pain syndrome, stiffness in joints, or muscle tension in any part of the body and searching for an effective way to deal with it then don’t worry, AlignBody brings a trigger point dry needling technique for you without any medication or surgery.

What is Trigger point dry needling?

A solid thin filiform or hollow-core hypodermic needle is used for the therapy of muscle pain, myofascial pain syndrome, etc.

It is called “Dry” because it is used without any solution or fluid and is directly inserted in the skin for the management of “neuromusculoskeletal” pain by triggering muscle trigger points. It is a technique used by Dr. Richa Gupta who is a physical therapist for pain treatment and movement impairments. It is also known as intramuscular manual therapy.

Do not mix up it with acupuncture (a practice based on traditional Chinese treatment), it is something different from that. Dry needling is related to modern western medicine principles which are also supported by research

Dry needling VS Acupuncture

  • It is a medical practice that originated in china that requires stimulating certain points of the body. In this process, the skin is penetrated using a needle to reduce pain and cure various health conditions.
  • Acupuncture is for the purpose of altering the flow of energy (Qi).
Dry Needling
  • It is the technique used by physical therapists which also requires penetration of the skin using a dry needle to provide relief from the pain.
  • Dry needling is evidence-based guidelines and suggested “point” location

Dry needling is used by a physical therapists with the aim of curing neuromuscular conditions, providing relief from pain, improving the movement of the body parts, and dry needling for frozen shoulders. This method can help to bring back a patient to a normal healthy condition.

Is TDN painful?

A patient may feel the insertion of the needle. It is intended to produce a local twitch response; it could be a very small painful response (less than a second). In some cases, a patient may feel a deep ache or cramping sensation.

Preparation for the therapy?

A patient does not need any special preparation before the trigger point dry needling technique, but it is suggested to have a light meal prior to 1-2 hours and wear loose clothes while visiting your physiotherapist which can be rolled up or down to access most of the body area.

At AlignBody, we look for improvements from the very first day of your visit like an increasing range of motion, mobility, and lowering symptoms.
